Joel, now you'll have to purchase a copy of Charles Houston's book
GOING HIGHER to get details on these very common illnesses at altitude.
Check out chapters 9, 10 and 11 of the revised edition of GOING HIGHER
and get excellent coverage of AMS, HAPE and HACE.

AMS is short for Acute Mountain Sickness, HAPE is High-Altitude Pulmonary
Edema and HACE is High-Altitude Cerebral Edema.

I don't know if Charles has put out a more recent edition that the 1987
one. The 1987 edition was published by Little, Brown and Company.
