I would like to go sometime. My regular mountain partner has been up Washington too many times, so he doesn't want to go back. The Mt. Logan expedition take up a lot of time? Really? Let's see now, there were 2 week long training trips. Darn, I missed both of those, but I did spend 3 weeks in Ecuador in Dec/Jan and 1 week around Boulder CO, and Long peak in March. There were several weekend training trips, which I made it to the Wallface one, which was quite a story because of Alan smashing his big toe with a 300 lbs rock. Of course, I have my own weekend trips that I guess could count as training, like the one where I setup a tyrolean across the Gunsight at Seneca Rocks in WV (there will be a tyrolean on Logan). There are meeting every free weekend and weeknight. I went to one weekend meeting and spent countless hours on the phone. There are thousands of dollars of gear to buy which means spending hours and hours on the phone and running stuff down. I did my 3K worth, plus more on personal gear. Of course you shouldn't do a trip like Logan without serious aerobic training. This involves 1 to several hours everyday since I knew I was going plus doing at least half that much before that for over a year. I do stuff like cycle on the hilly terrain around here from 12 to 90 miles on each ride averaging between 17 and 21 MPH, or go on a 3 hour speed caving trip with my friend Marek (he only knows one speed for caving, warp speed). But lately I have found a new favorite, which is hiking on the treadmill with a 65 lbs pack for an 1:00 hour 32% grade at 1.5 MPH climbing over 2500 feet vertically. Without the pack I do 1:00 hour 40% grade at 2.11 MPH which is 4500 feet. Sounds like fun doesn't it? I still haven't figured out why I am addicted to torturing myself in this way everyday. Oh, don't forget rock climbing 3 to 7 times a week or ice climbing similarly when the weather was cold. Now comes the good part, the expedition itself. I leave June 11 and plan on returning July 31. That's only 7 weeks. Why hell, Paul, our trip leader, plans to do at least a month climbing in Canadian rockies after that. Doing this climb isn't a trip, it's a lifestyle. Willie
