That's partly what I said adding the rest of my Email from above:

I guess I didn't explain their reason for taking pain killers. It's
not for AMS headache, but for muscle and joint pain. They told me
that the pain would get so bad that you couldn't sleep at night. I
could see that given a long enough time climbing with a 60 to 70 lbs
pack would make for some problems. I have had some problems before,
like a minor knee injury from stupidly going up and then too fast
downhill 1000's of feet on each hill for many days with 60 lbs pack,
or slight muscle soreness, but never enough that I wanted pain killers
or had even the slightly problem sleeping. Anyway, I don't care what
they say, I am not taking any pain killers until I absolutely have to
and then I will think twice about it.

Thanks for the list of drugs for the first aid kit. I think we have
all of them except the dexamatheasone and nifedipine. I always take
Diamox along on my high altitude trips, but I have never taken any.
The others do realize that Diamox is only a stop gap measure and no
cure for AMS, but it's nice to have when someone is real sick and
descent is not possible for a while.

Willie

PS

What's a 4Kmasochist? I can only imagine what 4K (4000) stands for.
