Note 44.210 MOUNT-L 210 of 517 CUPIDO::STRITAR "Andrej Stritar,IJS,(61)-371-321" 37 lines 22-SEP-1993 08:25 CUPIDO::STRITAR "Andrej Stritar,IJS,(61)-371-321" 37 lines 22-SEP-1993 08:25 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subj: Wilderness Recreation Study I am working on a project examining the tension inherent in the wilderness act between preserving a chunk of land (wilderness) and using that chunk of land for recreation. There seems to be of late an increasing amount of recreation in American wilderness which in effect is destroying the qualities of solitude and "wilderness" of these areas. Eventually as I get into this I plan to expand my research to include a study of the ecological effects of recreation in wilderness. Additionally I am looking at the efficacy of GIS and Remote Sensing as an empirical means of data collection and hypothesis testing. My field of study, just to narrow it down, is the Rocky Mountain System (ha ha), in particular the Colorado Rockies. I am looking for resources and contacts. Can anybody direct me to research in this area that is recent, within the last year or two? Is there anybody on this net or off this net that you may know about working on this problem or a similar problem? I would love to get any other ideas or comments on this subject. Thanks.
