Subject: MICHIGAN CLIMBING

Regarding climbing in Upper Michigan. There are many small
outcroppings in the Marquette area. Most range from 20-60 ft and
would not qualify as "destination" climbing areas. However, if you
ever find yourself traveling to the Upper Peninsula, bring some top-
rope gear at least. Local information may be obtained at the Down
Wind Sports store on 3rd St. and at the Quick Stop Bike Shop. The
University holds a climbing contest each spring on the indoor wall.
When in "the neighborhood", the cliffs at Shovel Point and Palisade
Head (north of Duluth, MN) should not be missed! Beautiful climbs
spring right from the water of Lake Superior (observe strong local
'no chalk' ethic.)
