Two years ago I totally changed my lifestyle and climbing was a integral part of that change. Climbing totally changed my perspective on life. I can't imagine life without it now. > Sigh!!!! Maybe one of these days I'll get back out there for a climb > or two!!! > > Fred Crooks > Henderson Community College > Check this out Fred: On Friday after our trip in the Tetons, we went to an indoor climbing gym in Jackson Hole, WY. There we met what I call "a climbing bum". His name is Dave. He climbed with us for a while in the gym and invited us over to his pad to sleep that night. We went to his home and talked with him for quite some time. Dave is a interesting character. He moved to Colorado from the north east when he was 18 because he wanted to ski. He did various construction work and skied as much as he could. In his years in Colorao he skied over 500 days and competed in skiing. He took up rock climbing, ice climbing, and mountaineering. He started doing the Colorado fourteeners in the winter. He has summited over 30 of the 50 or so of them. He climbed rock all over the US. He did Denali by a land approach. The list goes on and on. I think over half of ten years of time was devoted to outdoor adventures. Two years ago he move to Jackson WY. He climbs summer and winter in the Tetons. Lots of rock, ice and mixed routes. He was telling us that as soon as his bank account gets reasonable large he is off to climb every 5.9 rock climb with three stars on it in the US. Does this guy has his priorities straight or what? Does he let things like a job, higher education, or living in a shared apartment with 2 roommates interfere with his climbing? No way! He's devoted to it body and soul. That's extreme even by my standards. Willie Hunt
