It is supposed to have the highest biomass per unit area in the world (heard from an environmentalist up there)! I'm reserving judgement for now. Make sure you bring good raingear because you will probably get wet. The blue glacier beneath Mt. Olympus is very interesting. It reminds me of the Athabasca Glacier at the Columbia Icefields in the Canadian Rockies because the runout is long and flat. And now, for a little anecdote. A friend of a friend here decided that he wanted to go somewhere where no one had ever been before here in the Northwest. So he and his buddy figured the most likely chance of that would be in the Olympics. They pulled out a map and pegged the most remote lake they could find. Off they went. No trail, just several days of bushwacking through the forest. At long last, they arrived at the edge of the lake. And there, on the other side, in a natural clearing, stood... a brand new porta-potty! Crushed, they approached and inspected it. It seemed fully functional and unused. There was no trail to it, nor any sign of humans in the area. They returned to their campsite for the night, on the opposite side of the lake. Next morning, they awoke to the sound of a chopper. It came in, and without alighting, snatched the outhouse and left. Our friends finished the rest of the trip in isolation, disappointed, needless to say. Afterwards, curiosity getting the better of them, they inquired at the ranger station. Well, it turned out that the flying WC had been destined for a high usage lake, but the pilot had delivered it to the wrong one. He was just returning to fix the mistake. Csaba
