Note 44.279 MOUNT-L 279 of 517 CUPIDO::STRITAR "Andrej Stritar,IJS,(61)-371-321" 29 lines 22-DEC-1993 16:04 CUPIDO::STRITAR "Andrej Stritar,IJS,(61)-371-321" 29 lines 22-DEC-1993 16:04 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subj: Crampon Rust Prevention Date: 22-Dec-1993 Posted-date: 22-Dec-1993 I have a pair of SMC hinged crampons (12-pt) that I use with my Sorel boots for winter hiking in the Adirondacks and Catskills of New York state. (Some of you may be saying UGH, but for the type of hiking and terrain I'm talking about, it's a combination that's well-proven in these parts.) My question is this: Since last winter, when I apparently put these crampons away not quite dry, they've developed a light spotting of rust here and there. No structural degradation yet, but that's why I'm here now. First, what's the best way to remove this rust, and two, what sort of coating would do best to prevent it from returning? Oil? Varnish? Any ideas out there? Rich Vertigan Email - rv0271%rain@albnydh2.bitnet 10 Mountain View Terrace, #3 Latham, NY 12110-2022
