Here I am, an American in London. Britain is famous for its rock climbers, but the area around London seems more appropriate for mountain biking through cosy little fields. I'm pining for a little wilderness hiking, but with winter coming on I'm not sure I'll be getting any for a while. Any suggestions for simple rock climbs near London? Norway seems like a logical place to find good hiking. Any advice? The turkish slant on this bboard is interesting. I honeymooned there, and though I brought the Lonely Planet trekking guide, was too busy enjoying the food and the ruins to go far afield. I was in Indonesia in February and can definitely recommend the Mt. Merapi climb in Java, as mentioned in the Lonely Planet guide (again). Great view, and lovely jungle. Looking back, I suppose the best hiking I've had was in Japan, where you can soak in hot springs before and after, and sample the local delicacies. I'm happy to give details to anyone considering going to these places. In turn, I'm always ready to hear other people's favorites. Excelsior!
