Sounds very much like the gorge climbing we do here in the states, except that you don't usually have to worry about the tides have to worry about getting out once you've gotten in. I'll ask about the chalk climbs in this message rather than in a separate message... Are you refering to Dover? Just curious. No, I've never climbed chalk with ice axes. But I have used my axe on frozen soil and it works well there. Mixed climbs.
