I never know what to expect in winter, except severe nastiness. Not to worry, I will have my Asolo Expedition doubles, super gaiters, Marmot Alpinist shell, OR Expedition mitts with double liners, plenty of layering clothing, face mask, ski goggles, Tubb's snowshoes, Footfangs, ice axe, snow shovel, snow saw, Wild Country Quasar tent (suppose to hold up better than the TNF, we will see), TNF Dark Star -40 bag, Climb High mountain bivysack, MSR XGK II stove, etc, etc. If the snow is good, I'll make another igloo. Igloo's are quiet, bomber (if made correctly), and fun! In March there was this great igloo at 11000 feet. We camped in the tent, because the igloo's door was so small we couldn't get our backpack's inside. The winds got so strong that the tent was collapsing, so I curled myself up agaist the windward side and fell back to sleep. A climber who was soloing on the Diamond came up the morning in high winds with a poor clothing, and was hypothermic. He looked really bad, and was shivering, so he took his sleeping bag inside the igloo, and left his haul bag outside. I went in and talked with him for a while, and he said he only came up dressed like he was because he knew the igloo was there. Brave soul! Believe me, I have always had respect for severe weather. Last year's Thanksgiving's Grand Teton trip made that point very clear, when temps were -20F and 50 MPH winds, and it could have been much worse. Willie Hunt
