Mark,

I spent a great deal of time reviewing packs this last summer and fall.
My requirements for a mountaineering pack are listed below. The pack
that I settled (compromised) on is the Osprey "Finesse". If you have similar
needs, maybe this is the pack for you too.

Capable of carrying about 40 pounds comfortably: This includes a rack,
rope, screws, pickets, etc. This means that I wanted an internal
frame which could support and transfer the weight to my hips for
long approachs.
Primarily a day pack but suitable for a minimalist bivy. It should not only
get my gear into the climb but should also climb well. That is, it
should not be too rigid, since I will also climb with the pack. eg
narrow for chimneys, not alot of straps to hang on hauls, etc.

Volume: About 3200 cubic inches to accomodate all the gear for a technical
mixed climb, yet still have some room for an over night trip.

Two ice tool loops: It only has one tie off loop, however, to secure the
tool shafts.... a bit kludgy.

Daisey chain, lash points, crampon patch, good hip belt that can accept a
tool holster and well sewn.

The pack is competatively priced and sells for about $175. I'll probably
buy it for xmas.... or perhaps my wife will! :)
