I haven't taken a course from RMI, but would suggest you get a fairly
detailed description of what they do before signing on. Their standard
course is geared largely to getting non-serious mountaineering folks
up Mt. Rainier. You might also investigate the American Alpine Institute
in Bellingham, Washington. Their guides are some of the best mountaineers
in the US and have reputations as excellent teachers. If I were going to
take a course, this is definitely where I would go. Good luck.
